Frequently Asked Questions
Can you trace any buried wire?
We can trace most residential and commercial electrical conductors, including 120V and 240V circuits, underground service feeds, and low voltage wiring. The wire needs to have some accessible connection point to attach the transmitter signal.
What types of faults can you locate?
We can locate open circuits (broken or corroded conductors), short circuits (conductors touching), and ground faults (conductor contacting earth or conduit). Each fault type requires slightly different testing techniques, but all can be pinpointed without full excavation.
How accurate is the fault location?
With the right conditions, we can typically pinpoint a fault within a foot or two. Depth, soil conditions, and nearby metal can affect accuracy slightly, but the location is always precise enough to target excavation to a small area rather than digging up an entire run.
My outdoor circuit is dead but it's not underground — can you still help?
Yes. We troubleshoot all outdoor electrical circuits, above ground and below. If the problem turns out to be a tripped GFCI, a failed connection in a junction box, or a damaged above-ground section of wiring, we'll find it and fix it.
Do you handle the repair after locating the fault?
Yes. We don't just find the problem — we fix it. Once the fault is located, we excavate, make the repair, weatherproof the connection, and restore the circuit. You don't need to hire a separate crew for the repair.
